Data Vis Guild
The end users of IBM Watson Health products are physicians, patients, biologists, and hospital administrators. They are not data scientists, and do not have the skills (or time) required to render and interpret enormous data sets. So how can we best use these very data sets and the insights waiting within them to inform and guide our users at scale? It was this question, coupled with a strong interest in data visualization more generally, that led me to launch and run a series of guild meetings about data vis within the Watson Health community.
Other product teams in IBM had reached out to me for feedback on their data vis designs, and I realized many basic best practices were not being followed, and in talking to designers, realized they were not aware of them.
Internal and external examples of data visualization are inspiring and can make designing data feel more familiar and less intimidating.
